The Small Business Development Intern will:
- Work closely with FTF’s Membership Coordinator, training consultant, the FTF Training Committee, members, and partners to execute the 2010 FTF Business Training curriculum.
- Provide support for training activities.
- Liaise with possible speakers.
- Publicize training activities.
- Work with technology for events and manage other training activity preparation.
- Support FTF programmatic activities in order to assist in the development of Fair Trade enterprises, including web-seminars and FTF's national conference;
- Assist with FTF's internal and external communication tools, including the quarterly newsletter, Networks, member communications, social media, and others – in particular to promote training events and summarize the outcome of such events.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Work closely with FTF’s Executive Director, professional branding consultant, members, and partners to create a strategy which distinguishes the Federation and its members.
- Work closely with FTF’s Executive Director to execute the designed strategy.
- Analyze key metrics around FTF’s current communications.
- Propose strategies for more effective communication with members, key multipliers, the press, and consumers.
- Support FTF programmatic activities in order to assist in the development of Fair Trade enterprises, including FTF's national conference.
- Assist with FTF's internal and external communication tools, including the quarterly newsletter, Networks, member communications, social media, and others.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Prepare applicants for screening, including pre-screening applicants' practices, reviewing supporting materials, checking references, and liaising with the Screening Committee for review and approval.
- Provide timely response to inquires from FTF's existing membership.

Provide timely response to public inquiries.
- Research key topics of
interest to small Fair Trade businesses,
including government legislation.

Support FTF programmatic activities in order to assist in the development of Fair Trade enterprises, including FTF's national conference;

Assist with FTF's internal and external communication tools, including the quarterly newsletter, Networks, membership communications, social media, and others; and

Other duties as assigned.

Currently enrolled in advanced undergraduate or graduate studies in business, non-profit management, international affairs, economics, or related fields.

Previous office experience.

Demonstrated ability to multitask with minimal supervision.

Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills in English. Foreign language skills, particularly French or Spanish, a plus.
- Prior knowledge
and/or experience with fair trade, including
participation in university or community
activities, volunteering with
a fair trade organization or business, or
related activities a plus

Previous international travel, especially in the developing world, preferred.
